Ignition Pad Mod???

I've been reading through the pad Mods for quite a while, but all I've seen are "soft pad" mods (and the pictures show the Konami looking crappy ones). I am interested in modding my Ignitiion pad so that I can play on it with Shoes (which is the only downside of the pad that I have now).

So here are my questions:
1) Is there anyway to make the Left Arrow button work better? (it's the only one that doesn't register every once in a while)

2) How would I got about allowing myself to play with shoes on it? One Idea I had was covering it in plexiglass.

3) Does anyone have any other mods that they have done with the ignition pad?

2) no idea, just play with socks, soft pads arent meant to be played on with shoes.
