the load times are inexcusable because there isnt very much to load. a stepchart and a 2 minute song? like i said earlier, the load times are almost as bad as NFSU2, which has to load an entire 3d, interactive city. the load times after a song are also long, when you get your grade and go back to the menu. it does hurt the game, as does lack of edit mode, but it looks like what few copies were made/shipped were bought up right away, so i dont think roxor is worried about their sub-par ps2 release.

The load times are probably a bit longer than you might expect because of the 3D arrows nd FMVs.

max, max2, and ex for both US and JP had fmv's and every song loaded, showed the score, and went back to the selection screen almost instantly . the 3d arrows are rediculously low poly-count and textured very simply. thats hardly an excuse.

Yay finger pointing. Who cares? It's not like they censored the steps. Heh.

Sorry for the late post- I'm a big fan of ITG and play on weekends sometimes all three days (fri sat sun), and before ITG we were the same way with DDR. I can pass a lot of the 10+s, so you could call me a hardcore fan. In my opinion, when people say this is just what we (core fans) asked for, I think what they mean is that after playing DDR for so long, people got a lot of ideas about how it could get better. I think all r0x0r wanted to do was just that- take DDR's game and make some slight modifications that core players have wanted for so long. When it's said that R0x0r stole Konami's game, that was basically the point- not to steal it, but to keep the same format and only change a few things. I think of it as more of a SM arcade than a DDR arcade, the songs are of that calibur difficulty (I'm sure everyone knows some of the rediculous originals I'm thinking of- Quasar, Max Attax (another), Battle Axe, Kharma, ect), and it has mods out the wazoo.

Just my opinion. ITG is more of a refinement of DDR for the core player.

Nice review btw. Our opinions differ on a few points, but nonetheless it's an honest review. Sucks that the load time is so long, nonetheless I'm -quite- excited about getting mine. My order got cancelled because I'm an idiot and didn't know they take the money upon shipping, not ordering so...I had to rearrange some figures financially. Later.

Does DDR stream the backgrounds/music while ITG loads the whole damn thing right up front or something?

These load times are pretty much the same load times that I saw at E3.

it wouldn't surprise me if that's what it does. it probably also renders the arrows before the song (remember, they're 3d models, not sprites like in DDR) as well.

The load times doesnt bother me at all. One good way to look at it is: While it's loading you can take a small break.

Has anyone attempted to use a song-ripping utility upon the game yet? (You know, something similar to that one by (I think) Neil Corlett, "vbrip" or something). I'm just curious as to how the songs are saved on the disc, and in what format. (Maybe the bad load times are because nothing's streamlined, and the game has to call data from all over the place.... [/speculation] )

Regarding the load time issues, and the theories about why: the arcade version didn't have these problems, not to mention there's hardly any delay between songs in Marathon courses, and the fact that the Marathon courses don't take any longer to get started than individual songs.

Hopefully they'll have this issue ironed out by the time ITG2 for PS2 comes around. It's not a game-breaker or anything, but it IS annoying. I mean...how long should it take to see a results screen?

Well, I got my copy at 3:20 PM CST. Stupid UPS (that my Gamestop used) sent the boxes to the wrong place, but they're here now.

Semi-Agree. The loading times in this game are almost to the point of being game-crippling for me, especially when you realize there are definitely no-frills graphical effects in ITG. And I don't have a early model PS2; mine is a version 4 (I think? It's SCPH-30001 R on the model #). That and you can't delete scores easily in-game short of deleting the save file on the memory card. Being able to create your own profiles was a nice touch, though.

If ITG2 CS has these same issues though, I won't bother buying the sequel. I'll just play it at the arcade (assuming we get it here and it's still around by then).

Other than that, I'm impressed considering this is a first effort by both RedOctane and RoXoR. Like the new Expert steps for Why Me. E1.gif

Well, back to whoring out Queen Of Light Hard.

IMO ... people are being picky on alot of the small errors in the game ... just set them aside, play the game, and have fun. I love the loading times, because I don't have the best stamina and when I'm playing 10 and 11's ... yah ... the breaks are nice lol. As far as the censorship goes ... that doesn't really bother me, because half the time that I'm playing I listen to the beats not the words .... but like I said .... this is only my opinion.
