Personally, I have no problem with the IIDX songs being cut down. I personally like the shortened version of L'amore Et La Liberie better than the IIDX version. As for the others that were shortened, it makes it easier for me to freestyle to them. _________________

L'amour: Yay! They removed the singing and the piano parts. The song seemed schizophrenic when it kept jumping back and forth between Euro-trance and whatever the hell that piano+singing would be called. Either one is good, but they're not the same song. Don't try to put them together.
Colors: Another yay. It seems to start faster and it doesn't seem to drag on for as long (despite being longer, I think, than the IIDX ver.).
xenon: Slight yay. The intro and ending are drawn out too long in IIDX, and they cut 'em shorter for DDR.
V: The beginning of V also suffered from schizophrenia, switching between classical and generic Taka techno over and over. However, the IIDX ending followed the classical version better... but seemed a bit long and drawn out, too. Overall, I'm neutral.
A: I hardly notice the cut here.
Stoic: Too many instruments have been emphasized or pushed to the background, so I can't really tell what has changed. Sounds like a totally different song.
The list goes on and on. Overall, I'm either pleased with the DDR cuts or I'm basically neutral. The only exception is:
Happy Wedding: They left in the chorus... which repeats over and over anyway... and they removed the drum solos and cool piano parts... which were interesting and unique.
In terms of step difficulty, I think they basically did a good job. I don't want A to be exactly like the IIDX notes with 1/16ths at 190 BPM. That's just moronic.
However I'm somewhat displeased with the steps for a few songs.
Last Message: Most of the song is good. However, the beginning and end have fun 1/16th rhythms while the steps are just random 1/8th runs.
Sakura: If you're going to make this a 10, at least make it actually difficult. There are lots of fast 1/8th note rhythms that'd make the song more difficult and interesting, like the "dun da-da-dun da-da-dun da-da..." of the Shamisen during many parts, the drumrolls, and the interesting drum rhythms after it speeds up. _________________

The only thing that "bugs" me about IIDX songs in DDR is that I'd rather see more "new" songs in DDR. For instance, Extreme had a small amount of new Dancemania tracks (compared to other mixes) and a whole crapload of transplants, or songs from other bemani games. I think this is why Extreme got old fast for me. I'd already worn most of these songs out. heh. |
I agree 100%. When you think about it the songs that are DDREXTREME "EXCLUSIVE" only are so few compared to other DDR mixes. THink about it. In DDR 2nd-7th Mix. Each contained about 15-30 Dancemania Songs and 10-50+ Konami Originals. DDR Extreme has about 10 Dancemania songs exclusive to EXTREME, and about 15 Exclusive DDR Konami Originals. _________________

I actually say that DDR should include uncut version of IIDX songs. When parts of IIDX songs are cut out the song really loses it groove. Because the song constantly jumps to the exciting parts you never get a chance to truely appreciate the exciting parts of the song.
For example - take Burning Heat and V. In IIDX these songs start out slow and build themselves up to get more exciting. And then they repeat the slow down and speed up process in order to keep getting exciting. These slow down and speed up elements are generally lost in the DDR version of Burning Heat and V.
However I play IIDX sons in DDR all the time. DDR's Burning Heat and V are still OK songs to play. Also some IIDX songs really aren't affected negatively by being cut at all. Many still keep steady rhythm and are exciting throughout their playtime. |
