|
|
Everytime I've posted today, after I click submit, I get to a screen that says "Failed Sending e-mail"
After this occurs I never appear to have the last post from the forum index (even when I should) but once I click on the thread my post appears.
......?
Edit: Didn't happen this time. |

That happens when you reply to a thread that someone has e-mail subscriptions on.
We fixed this issue a LONG time ago, now I just need to go figure out what was happening.
(I seem to remember this caused a 'number of replies' bug too.) _________________

That user has e-mail notices of new PMs turned on...
It all revolves around e-mail. _________________

It's happened to me on two different threads now, and one was a "accomplishments" thread that has been around for a long time. It just happened in DDR Chit-Chat, there is a thread that has "0 replies" and the OP is the last poster even though there were two replies by the time I read it and then I replied also.
It doesn't seem to actually stop the reply from going on the post, it just doesn't say that you replied or bump the thread.
If the name of the other thread would help you, its "The New England Jerk-Fest (Accomplishment Thread)" in the New England regional board. There has been another post after mine that this happened to also. |

Just a reminder for everyone in TWG, unsubscribe to the thread and we can all start posting in it again. |

Tried sending a reply PM, but got that "failed sending email" message, so I tried refreshing (which usually works when I post), but got that "can't make another post so soon" message, which also goes away if I refresh, but didn't work & got that failed message again.....
Now I'm getting the message after trying to post in the SN2/UNI2 Thread in DDR Console....
Checked back on the thread & I accidently double-posted.... |

I'm getting it every time I post. And when I make an edit it says "message entered successfully" _________________

Hmm. It appears I was wrong and that it wasn't just happening in one thread.
If this is being such a nuisance, why not remove that functionality (so that users cannot email-subscribe to threads) ?
Are there any posters who are in 100% of the threads this happens in? If so, there may be exactly one or two offending posters with something misconfigured. (It'd be an exploit of sorts)
I still say just remove that functionality and be done with it. _________________

Yeah, it'll say it doesn't work, but when I checked my PMs this morning, it said that I send 3 copies of the same message (that, & I got a reply)... |

That shouldn't have anything to do with it. It is a server-side issue. _________________

I'm getting this problem now, too, in the Brawl FC thread in Non-Music Games & Consoles. Whoever subscribed to that thread, unsubscribe if you're reading this. _________________

Guys, seriously. It's a forum wide problem, one that requires root access to the server itself to fix.
The unfortunate thing is that the solution to the problem lies only in the minds of people who remember, because the purge we did back in ... 2004 (I think?) took out the thread with the resolution to this problem back when it first happened years ago.
We don't need reports of where this is happening, there is a high probability of happening on every single thread that has more than 5 replies.
We know exactly what the problem is, it is a server problem, not a client problem, there is nothing you can do to fix it (shy of shutting off all of your e-mail notifications, PMs included), but that's long and tedious to do.
If you wish to, you are welcome to, but I don't expect everyone to do that. I'd rather sooner have the problem fixed. And I'm attempting to get in touch with the people who could do so. _________________

I think the more annoying aspect of this bug isn't so much the fact that any thread affected with it is impossible to bump except by one particular poster (whoever posted last in the thread before the bug bit), but that you cannot access any pages further in on such threads beyond the one where the bug bit without replying to the thread, and then reading extra replies below (that you didn't know were there before replying to the thread).
Seriously, is there any good reason to leave this email-subscribe feature enabled? If someone really wants to know about a thread they can always just go to the forums and find the thread and look to see if there are further replies. _________________
