Support for the .MAX format has (in theory) been added. It should be live within half an hour.
The filesizes on the .MAX files I've gotten have been really small, so I don't know if they'll really work. I'm guessing they have the icon data stripped, but the converter program I got (which seems fairly turnkey) doesn't seem to have a way to put the icon back in. So, if you try one and it doesn't work, none of them likely will. If that proves to be the case, please get in touch with me so we can solve the problem. _________________

One problem! How the hell do we transfer these files to our memory cards after downloading them? |

Did you try reading the Legend?
This is only for people who have access to the appropriate hardware to get a gamesave onto a memory card. Any of the listed items will work. _________________

Does anyone know where I can get this hardware? Or how it works? I really miss my 5th mix file. |

I have a fully unlocked DDR Extreme (US) save I'd like to upload -- I'm willing to go buy the necessary device to upload my save. Which one do you consider the best?
For every person I'll save from having to go through that stupid Mission 98... _________________

As for the PS2, I think they all suck in their own special ways...but the best of them appears to be the MAX drive.
The SharkPort/X-Port is troublesome and doesn't always work (Mine was broken out of the box but I knew how to fix it). Plus, it's rather inconvenient to have to put the PS2 close enough to your computer to run the cable.
The EMS Memory Adapter works with PS1 saves, but it's the worst from a useability standpoint. _________________

Since you're talking about 5th Mix, you'll either want a DexDrive or the EMS Memory Adapter, since those are the two biggest things that work with PS1 saves. As for where to get them...they have these things called "Search Engines". You might want to try one of those.
As for how it works, I'd venture a guess that you'd probably get "instructions" with them. That would probably help. _________________

Wow, whoever came up with this is a genius! This is a great idea....but I must agree with Phrek that it kinda defeats the purpose of unlocking songs, but everyone has a little bit of laziness in them. _________________

there's also Oni/Nonstop courses that can be a pain to unlock, especially if you suck at playing with options |

I think this is a great idea, and if anyone wants me to contribute fully unlocked saves for ALL of the PS1 versions (yes, even 3rd with all the features, and 5th with the entire Gallery) I'll gladly do it after I'm free Sunday afternoon. The files will contain all unlocks and zero song scores.
I have always believed that the unlock process in DDR home versions is 99% pointless. DDR doesn't need an unlock process to artificially extend its replay value like so many other inferior games--its gameplay is good enough to keep people playing anyway. Did anyone stop playing the arcade DDR Extreme after the final unlock code was entered? I thought not.
It's because of this reason, as well as the fact that I waited for quite a few songs to unlock in the arcade (or in prior home versions) already, that I always want to skip/speed through the unlock process for any new DDR game as quickly as possible. It is stupid. I paid for the new version, didn't I? I want to be able to enjoy its capability out of the box! I've played DDR for almost 3 years--shouldn't that be long enough to unlock everything?
(The 1% of unlocks that weren't stupid are the Gallery in 5th MIX and the information messages like Dance Master, etc. Things that don't affect playable content, and are just special little bonuses for people who play a lot. But I'm still waiting to see a repeat of a very simple feature that still keeps me playing 5th...the Information screen called "Total Score.")

That's true, but the spacial difference between codes released was very small. The way 7th mix did it's unlock system would have been a better approach without the codes. Because now that DDR is becoming less appealing to the veteran player (and other forms of the game are showing popularity like ITG), Unlocking PSMO now probably would have kept the players around a little longer.
But that's not the way it happened. And you are right, DDR is going to be popular to some degree. I think it just could have been a better unlock time. _________________

It turns out my PS1 memory card didn't survive it's latest trip through the washing machine. It's empty, and I can't get anything to save on it, either.
Though, if yyr's got all the PS1 games' saves, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. |
