Heh, I could do it. I develop 10,000+ line PHP software all day for a company that hosts over 3000 newspaper websites. I could squeeze in a site update or two every once in a while. |
That's fabulous, but you don't live his life. Don't be rude and make assumptions.
Maybe I'll spend some time today trying to figure out how to update that. _________________

Hey, now who's making assumptions? I was offering to help. If JR Asparagus is busy, I do this kind of work all day, so I could help out if you guys want it. I wasn't implying he was lazy or anything. I just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't some random guy, "I writ3 teh w3bs1t3z g00d, I k@n hepl!" I know you guys don't just hand off site updates to random people off the street.
As a side note, because my company has such close ties with the newspaper industry, I played a hunch and asked one of them to do a story about DDR in our area, and it looks like they gave it a green light. I'll post a link as soon as it's available. I work with the girl who's writing it, so I'll make sure it's not "yet another exercise" article. _________________

Yeah, I think Trifthen was just trying to be nice. But I'm sure I or one of the other programmers for the site will be able to do it.
It just takes a little time because we generally save a local copy of the entire page on our servers. I might be able to get to it today.
Ryu: DDR isn't exactly dancing, but why would you get so angry if someone calls you a dancer? I know some people who use "dance" as a verb to mean "to play DDR"--since,y'know, the game is called DANCE DANCE Revolution. How was the article not professional? It clearly states that you follow the arrows on the screen. I think that's sufficient enough to "explain what the arrows mean." What else do you do with the arrows? _________________

Hey Guys and Gals,
I am the "freelance writer." It's really great to see that many of you enjoyed it--and thanks to Jr. Asparagus for sharing this topic link with me. Just wanted you to know that I'm not unconcerned with feedback and its great to hear all your points positive and negative.
For those who were disappointed in any aspects--I'll just say that in my (admittedly limited) experience, DDR fanatics have a culture all their own which is somewhat difficult to explain to the general casual newspaper reader. So I had to keep it somewhat light and understandable for those who the article was directed at--the people who may not have even realized the game existed. I made note of your comments though, and i will take them into consideration for future articles.
But thanks again for ALL comments--you guys have been extremely helpful and an opening and extremely polite group--esp. the folks at ddrfreak.com and those, like Gino, who i interviewed at Liberty Tree. |
