The beatgear pads arent made of wood. They are made some molded tough plastic for the main frame, then metal on the top. Atleast to me they looked very sturdy. there is a review of them over at www.stepmania.com |

These are 80 pounds. Arcade pads are 241 pounds. They really aren't exact duplicates _________________

OK! For all of those who don't know what happened. Here's the deal on the whole Beat-Gear scam since I've kept track of it up until the site and forums recently dissappeared from existence...
About THREE (3) years ago, a man named Derek Leu from Peru started this site for Beat-Gears. They're essentially VERY HIGH quality arcade style dance platform REPLICAS (JUST as good as the real thing if not an exact duplicate) for the PS/PS2. They were custom made from a durable polymyr mold and high quality steel for the outside frame. Derek opened up the site for orders and I believe about 20+ or so people PRE-ORDERED these pads at about 300-400 dollars a pop (4/6 panel designs) so that he could start mass producing them. Derek DID manage to get them done, but the closest all his customers ever got to seeing them were via MONTHLY, to QUARTERLY updates over the span of TWO years, plus trickles of pics on the forums every once in a while to keep his clients drooling. But all he ever did was continue to promise, and promise, and promise, and promise (you get where this is going?) his customers that he'd get them shipped soon. Some customers were already frustrated to a point where they wanted the FBI involved in hunting Derek down so that they could either get their pads or their money back. Then he had the problem of getting the pads shipped to the states so that shipping would be cheaper for his customers. However, from what I remember, Derek had quite a few financial problems and even tried to get a bank loan to try to get the pads to where they needed to go. Inspired by an already lost cause, his customers were scammed yet AGAIN to raise money to try and get the pads on a Cargo ship, going from Peru to Florida, where they would supposedly get sent to the customers from there. The fund raiser was a success (for Derek anyway), and a sum of about 1500-2000 dollars was sent to Derek to get them on the Cargo ship. The pads arrived at Florida and were stored in a warehouse. NOW Derek had yet ANOTHER problem! In order for the pads to be released from the Florida warehouse where they were being held, Derek had to fork out another 700-1000 dollars (since there were over 20+ of these pads) to get them out of the warehouse and that's where these pads have been ever since. They are now being sold on eBay because they were auctioned off from that very warehouse since they were being stored there for too long and they needed to free up warehouse space. These warehouse auction buyers have nothing to do with Derek. They just happened to purchase some good warehouse auction items, namely these Beat-Gear pads. From what I remember, 2-3 customers ACTUALLY managed to get their orders. 2 customers were able to pick theirs up from either Peru or Florida and the 3rd customer paid about 1500-2000+ dollars to get them shipped directly to him from Peru, which altogether might as well have been the cost of an actual arcade machine, $800 (for 2 6-panels pads) + shipping 1500-2000+ = about 3000+ dollars. That's about how the whole Beat-Gear scam went down. It's sad to see how all of these customers got ripped off . If anyone has anything to add to this story or anything to correct, by all means, feel free.

That's what I figured about how the pads were sold to people from the warehouse because the owner of the storage place got tired of waiting.
It's good to know for sure the people on EBay aren't doing anything wrong then. It's just a shame that the people who originally paid for the pads probably aren't going to get them now. |

Thank you JM3P for putting an end to all this eBay seller bashing. I remembered the gist of all this drama, but not all the details of it. So again, thank you. _________________

hello
I bought these pad at a local public storage auction here in fla , That's what I do for a living. I have all paperwork to prove where I bought them and paperwork to prove of ownership.
I would love to make a deal with u but honestly I do not know the true value, I try to research them but was unable to locate the maker. I paid allot of money for them at auction so I'm just trying to make a buck or 2.
thanks
mike

I don't believe this guy Mike. If he doesn't know the true value of the pads, why the hell would he pay a lot of money for them at an auction? Sounds fishy to me.
Someone who claims he doesn't know much about the value of a dance pad yet is willing to pay a lot of money for them at an auction. Makes me wonder.... |

they're not real arcade pads, sheesh. The guy's just ignorant.
And matrix, he probably bought them because he knew they were worth SOMETHING, just not the exact value.
Would ya just read JM3P's post? That's the actual story. |

I bought a set for myself. They arrived through FedEx last week, and they living crap had been beat out of them durring shipping. The boxes were in tatters and the pads were extremely beat up, bent and messed up. One of the connectors that goes into the PS2 was smashed. Needles to say, neither of them worked. I called the seller immediatly and he promptly shipped me another set of pads without any hassle to replace these, this time they will supposedly be coming in crates so they won't get damaged.
Well other than the fact that they are broken and beat up, I was extremely pleased cosmetically with the first set. They were quite true to the arcade feel, better than any pad I've played on before. I've played on almost every kind of metal pad. RO, CF, BNS, and even my own home made pad. The arrows feel plasticy and flimsy compared to the arcade pad, but oter than that it feels pretty good. When two working pads come I'll put up some videos, pictures and an official review in the metal pad thread. |

I was accually looking into buying these pads before. I'm glad I read this thread first lol. I think I'll wait and but a full arcade system, or ask my arcade of any good places to buy from (they're nice people). Well, I guess I'll go and waste my money now on the arcade lol. |

Lets see, Mike, who posted is where I purchased these pads. He is a great guy.
I have purchased 6 of these. I had a set of CF's before, and the BG's blow away the CF's.
Mine came in wood crates and even though UPS beat them up some, because of the packaging, they are fine.
I could not recommend these pads more highly, and working with Mike was great.
Now, I need to build a new controller since one was bad. Am trying to find a place to purchase the PC board controller that just has the minimum stuff needed for the DDR pad. Any leads?
Thanks.
It is sure cool having 6 of us doing these all at one time. My house is the hit in the neighborhood now!!
