If something is posted in the wrong forum, why isnt it just moved to the right forum? there IS a feature to do so, because topics used to be moved all the time. it shows Moved: in the original forum it was posted in, and links to the right forum. im just curious why this isnt used more. instead of saying "Locked, use (insert name) forum" you could just move it. it just seems to make sense to move a post rather than create traffic by having them create a new post.

There's a number of reasons for this.

A> If you lock a thread and direct the person to the proper forum to post in, they're more likely not to make the mistake a second time.

B> People make more of an effort to put their post in the right place the first time instead of saying 'oh, well a mod will do it for me'.

C> Because of the two reasons above, it winds up saving the moderators less time. It prevents future misplacement.

D> When you use the shadow topic function, every time that thread is replied to, the shadow of it that is in the incorrect forum gets bumped to the top of the forum, which can be a nuisance.

E> If you move without the shadow topic function, the person will likely not know where their thread was moved to, causing confusion. They might think the post disappeared and recreate the thread in the incorrect spot.

Hope this helps!
